Briefly in English

I am a Finnish member of the European Parliament, representing Centre Party of Finland. I am a member of the European Parliament’s centrist political group, Renew Europe. I work as a full member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE), a substitute of the Committee on Regional Development (REGI) and a substitute of the Committee on Budgets (BUDG).

I have a long history in national politics. For 40 years – ten electoral terms – I served Finland as a Member of Parliament. I have been a minister in five different government coalitions: Minister of the Interior and Local Government in 1995, Minister of Trade and Industry 2003-2008, and Minister of Economic Affairs 2008-2011. A total of about 4.400 days, just over 12 years. I am among the longest-serving ministers in the history of Finland. In 2015-2019, I served as the first Deputy Speaker of the Parliament. The President of the Republic of Finland awarded me the honorary title of Minister in 2020.
